Exuma is one of my favorite island of the Bahamas! The beaches were beautiful, the water was so clear and there was so much to do on this little island. We were here for a short weekend getaway. You don’t need much time here to explore the whole island, but it is really nice and relaxing here so if you could, definitely try to stay for a week or two. However you must keep in mind that you are on Bahamian time, so every thing will be at a slower pace here.
If you plan on visiting this place, I do recommend you do a boat tour. There are many little islands for you to check out. Definitely check out the swimming pigs. They are so adorable (especially the babies). They hang out on this little island and as soon as the boat approaches, they come out into the water for you to feed them.
You can also go to the Iguana island. This island is full of iguanas. I’m not a big fan of them, but it was neat to check out this island.

As I was saying earlier, the water here is beautiful. You definitely need to do some snorkeling here. It amazing seeing on the colorful fishes swimming around the coral reefs. You should check out the Thunderball Grotto. That was one thing I wish we had a chance to do there. It’s an underwater cave and a nice area to snorkel. We were able to snorkel just right off of the beach where our resort was. It was just amazing seeing life underwater.

So….. Just an FYI, the food is really good here, but you MUST to have some patiences. They have fresh, delicious seafood at most places here. But what the Bahamas are really known for are their conch salad. OMG they are SO DELICIOUS! For those of you who never had fresh conch, you must try this. I’ve tried frozen conch in the states but never really liked it. I wasn’t to ecstatic about trying the conch salad when I first heard about it, but after that first bite, I was hooked. They get these conch right out the water and make it fresh to order. Some places also makes crack conch (battered and fried) and that’s pretty amazing as well.
There are only a few places were you can get these dishes. We ordered it at the resort we stayed at. But the other place is the Chat and Chill. This island is pretty neat. It’s setup like a little park on the beach. You can sit outside and relax and get some drinks while waiting for the conch salad. You definitely need to try the goombay smash. It’s their special drink on the island. It tastes really good and fruity, but is really strong. So after a few of these, you’ll definitely feel really happy. Don’t forget to feed the stingrays while you are here! They come up to shore and you can feed them some conch.
Well that wraps up our trip! Hope that helps! Just one last reminder, bring lots of sunscreen cause it can get really hot there. Don’t forget to check out the other islands of the Bahamas!
